Moisture-Associated Skin Damage (MASD)
Moisture-associated Skin Damage (MASD), as the name suggests, occurs when exposure to a moisture source results in a breakdown of skin integrity. This moisture can come from a number of sources — urine, faeces, wound exudate —hence MASD is an umbrella term for a number of conditions including incontinence-associated dermatitis, peri-stomal skin damage, peri-wound skin damage and intertrigo. These conditions can impact greatly on patients so protecting the skin from damage and promoting wound healing are integral parts of skin and wound care. This area contains a variety of different resources to help aid understanding of MASD; it causes, the risk factors for its development, how to prevent it, and how to assess and manage MASD should it occur, so please sign up to our events, and explore to learn more!
